FoxAlien Masuter Pro Review: An All-Metal Frame, Underpowered Stock
An all-aluminium 400 mm desktop CNC that is quick to set up and easy to expand. Why the frame is the good part, and why you will want a better spindle.

The Masuter Pro is a machine with a good frame and a weak motor. Which one matters depends on whether you are willing to upgrade.
The frame
It is built entirely from aluminium, with a linear rail on the Z-axis. It arrives mostly assembled and pre-wired, and FoxAlien quotes 10 to 15 minutes to set up. That is a real advantage over kit machines that take an afternoon to square. The 400 x 400 mm bed is the useful desktop size, and an optional Y-axis extension makes it longer.
The spindle
The stock 775 DC spindle is the weak point. Owners report it lacks power for hardwoods. Some say it struggles even in Baltic birch plywood, which is the bread-and-butter sheet good for CNC work. You can work around it with shallow passes, but jobs take much longer.
FoxAlien anticipates the upgrade. A 65 mm clamp is included alongside the stock 52 mm one, so you can fit a compact trim router or a 1.5 kW spindle.
Other limits
- Z travel is 60 mm, less than the Genmitsu 4040-PRO MAX’s.
- Clamps. Owners say the supplied clamps do not hold well, especially on aluminium. Many make their own. See CNC router bits explained for why holding the work matters as much as the bit.
Verdict
If you already own a compact router to fit to it, the Masuter Pro is a good frame. If not, the 4040-PRO MAX ships with the router included and is the simpler buy.
What works
- All-aluminium frame with a linear-rail Z-axis, stiffer than budget machines built from extrusion and rods
- Arrives mostly assembled and pre-wired; set-up takes 10 to 15 minutes
- Includes a 65 mm clamp, so it is ready for a trim router or a 1.5 kW spindle upgrade
- An optional Y-axis extension kit lengthens the bed for longer work
What doesn't
- The stock spindle lacks power for hardwoods and even struggles in Baltic birch ply
- Only 60 mm of Z travel limits thick stock and rotary set-ups
- Owners say the supplied clamps do not hold well, especially on aluminium
