Onefinity Elite Review: Ballscrew CNC With a MASSO Controller
Onefinity sells its Elite series direct, not on Amazon. What its ballscrews, closed-loop motors and MASSO touchscreen controller offer, and the closest Amazon option.

Onefinity sells its machines direct, from its own shop. They are not on Amazon. The score and links on this page are for the Genmitsu 4040-PRO MAX, the best desktop CNC we found on Amazon. It is not an equivalent, and nothing on Amazon is.
What the Onefinity Elite is
The Elite series is Onefinity’s top line:
- Ballscrews on every axis. 1616 screws on X and Y (16 mm of travel per turn) and a 1610 on Z (10 mm per turn).
- Closed-loop stepper motors. The motors report back their actual position, so a skipped step is detected rather than silently ruining a job. Most hobby machines run open-loop.
- A MASSO touchscreen controller. A dedicated controller with a 15-inch screen, so the machine runs on its own rather than from a laptop sender.
- A heavy-duty Z-slider with 165 mm of travel, and a choice of 65 or 80 mm router or spindle mount.
The Woodworker size has a 32 x 32 inch cut area. That is big enough for furniture and cabinet parts.
Against the Shapeoko
The Shapeoko 5 Pro also uses ballscrews and rails, and is also sold direct. The Onefinity’s selling points are its closed-loop motors and standalone MASSO controller. The Shapeoko’s are Carbide 3D’s beginner-focused software and its range of bed sizes. Compare current specs on both makers’ sites before deciding.
What to do
If you are ready for a high-end machine, buy direct. If you are new to CNC, the Genmitsu 4040-PRO MAX is the cheaper way to learn whether CNC suits how you work. See CNC vs laser for woodworkers if you are still deciding between the two.
What works
- The Genmitsu 4040-PRO MAX, our Amazon pick in its place, is an affordable way to learn CNC before committing to a machine like this
- The 4040-PRO MAX ships with a 710W trim router and linear guides, so it cuts hardwood
What doesn't
- The 4040-PRO MAX is nowhere near an Elite: much smaller, with no ballscrews, closed-loop motors or standalone controller
- There is no Amazon-buyable machine that matches the Onefinity Elite; this pick is a starting point, not a substitute
