A good Black Friday deal is a price cut on the machine you would buy anyway. Most bad ones are bundles: a machine plus cheap thread, needles and a tote, priced so the “savings” look large.
How to tell a real deal
- Compare the machine on its own. If the bundle costs more than the bare machine plus the extras you actually want, it is not a deal.
- Check the price history. Free trackers such as camelcamelcamel and Keepa show whether today’s price is really low, or just lower than an inflated “list price”.
- Buy the right machine, not the biggest discount. A deep cut on the wrong machine is still the wrong machine. Each segment links to its full guide.

Is it worth waiting for Black Friday?
It depends.
For machines, yes: big-ticket craft machines are often marked down around Black Friday (November 27) and Cyber Monday (November 30). For small tools such as cutters, rulers, clips and thread, no: the saving is a few dollars, so buy them when you need them.
Buying for someone else?

-
Smallest budget
OLFA 24 x 36 in Self-Healing Rotary Cutting Mat

Middle budget

The safest machine to give a beginner.
-
Biggest budget
Brother SE700 Sewing and Embroidery Machine
Sewing and embroidery in one, so it is useful even if embroidery does not stick.
