The short answer
- 1 Best Overall: ELEGOO Saturn 4 Ultra 16K Resin 3D Printer
- 2 Best for Long Single-Resin Runs: ANYCUBIC Photon Mono M7 Pro 14K Resin 3D Printer
- 3 Best Small and Budget: ELEGOO Mars 5 Ultra 9K Resin 3D Printer
A resin printer’s detail is set by the LCD screen that masks the UV light. Ignore the “K” in the name and look at the pixel size in micrometres (µm), because the same K count on a bigger screen means bigger pixels.
| Screen | Pixel (XY) | Build volume | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saturn 4 Ultra 16K | 10 in | 14 x 19 µm | 211.68 x 118.37 x 220 mm |
| Photon Mono M7 Pro | 10.1 in | 16.8 x 24.8 µm | 223 x 126 x 230 mm |
| Mars 5 Ultra | 7 in | 18 x 18 µm | 153.36 x 77.76 x 165 mm |
What resin needs besides the printer
This is the part beginners underestimate. Budget for it before choosing a printer.
- Ventilation. Resin gives off fumes while it prints. Put the printer in a room with real airflow, away from where people sleep.
- Nitrile gloves. Thick ones, not latex. Uncured resin is a skin sensitiser, and an allergy, once developed, does not go away.
- Wash and cure. Prints come off the plate sticky. They need washing (in isopropyl alcohol, or in water for water-washable resins) and then curing under UV. A wash-and-cure station makes this tidy.
- Disposal. Never pour resin-laden alcohol down a drain. Leave it in the sun until the resin cures and settles out, then dispose of the solids.
FDM vs resin covers whether resin is the right choice at all. For workshop parts, it usually is not.
Buying note
None of these printers has been used hands-on for this guide. The picks come from published specifications and independent review patterns.
ELEGOO
Saturn 4 Ultra 16K Resin 3D Printer
A 10-inch 16K screen at 14 x 19 µm, tilt release and a tank heater, with a bed big enough for batches. It has no built-in carbon filter, so give it a ventilated room. Check the tilt assembly screws on arrival.

ANYCUBIC
Photon Mono M7 Pro 14K Resin 3D Printer
A heated vat and automatic refill keep tall prints going unattended. The refill lines hold resin, though, so frequent colour changes mean extra cleaning and a risk of contamination.

ELEGOO
Mars 5 Ultra 9K Resin 3D Printer
Most of the Saturn's features on a 7-inch, 9K screen with square 18 µm pixels, at an entry price. The 153 x 78 x 165 mm bed fits single miniatures and small parts, not batches.

How these picks were chosen
Three MSLA resin printers, each for a distinct job: best all-round, long single-resin runs, and an affordable way in. They are compared on published screen resolution, build volume and features (tilt release, heating, refill, object detection), alongside the faults that recur in independent reviews. None of these printers has been used hands-on for this guide; the picks are research-based, not our own testing.
